Canadians have spoken out time and time again how increased groceries, energy, and home prices continue to hurt us. If Canadian politicians want to seriously address the cost of living crisis for their Canadian constituents, a divestment from fossil fuels must be on their list of priorities.
On January 6th, we sent our petition to President Biden, calling on him to declare a climate emergency before he leaves office. One day later, the climate emergency came to the people of Los Angeles county, in the form of unprecedented wildfires. We again call on President Biden and the Democratic party to make a very clear and public statement connecting the ways climate change has made catastrophes like this more intense and more frequent.
We are filled with rage and dismay at the US election outcome. Under Trump’s leadership, we expect a direct assault on the protection of human and environmental justice at home and abroad. His election could lead to social and environmental catastrophes worse than we have ever seen.
