Stop Billionaires Summer brought together a coalition of activist groups participating in a sustained campaign of actions in late summer of 2025 – and Scientist Rebellion Turtle Island (SRTI) was in the thick of it. The actions were focused in in the San Francisco Bay Area.

What The Stop Billionaires Summer Coalition Did Together
- 100+ folks joined our Scientists Speak Out! teach-in at Lake Merritt (more info below)
- 7 actions on Wells Fargo, including 2 national mobilizations
- 4 actions on Palantir & Founders Fund, sparking a growing national coalition
- Hosted frontline leaders from the Gulf South and the No DAPL campaign
- Actions on BlackRock, JPMorgan, Chubb, Scale AI, and Tesla
- Mass wheat-pasting, art builds, trainings, and gatherings that strengthened our Bay Area activist network
These efforts are aligned with the ongoing SRTI Billionaires poster campaign across the US and Canada.

The Stop Billionaires Summer campaign is over, but efforts to stop the rise of oligarchy and authoritarianism continue. More info and upcoming events will be posted at stopbillionaires.org.
Scientist Rebellion in Stop Billionaires Summer – a slideshow
This slideshow is a work-in-progress. We will be uploading more photos from SRTI participation in all SBS events in July-September. Contact us if you have photos to share.
Many of the groups and organizers participating in Stop Billionaires Summer are building on their experiences from Summer of Heat 2024. The targets and tactics will be different, but we will be replicating the successful model of having many weeks of sustained actions, each week organized by different groups and coalitions. SRTI West plans to anchor a week of actions in northern California, probably the second week of August.

Scientists Speak Out Rally and Teach-In July 19
Lake Merritt Amphitheater, Oakland, CA
This was one of the first big gatherings of Stop Billionaires Summer. It is also affiliated with Stand Up for Science‘s nationwide Summer Fight for Science. We began the rally with a series of powerful speakers, interspersed with musicians and a skit. Speakers included scientists and other academics, to talk about the climate crisis, concerns about the rise of authoritarianism and oligarchy, concerns and consequences of attacks on science and academic freedom, and research on effective nonviolent civil resistance.
After the rally, participants chose among five different teach-ins (mostly 20-minute sessions on similar topics, by rally presenters and other academics or movement leaders), held at different tables dispersed around the edge of the space.

Closing Remarks
Before “Stop Billionaires Summer,” there was Summer of Heat 2024

Summer of Heat 2024 was amazing, with 13 weeks of sustained actions in New York, and supporting actions around the country. SRTI took part in many of these actions, focusing on Citibank’s role in financing fossil fuel projects. We were part of the “Spring Spark” actions, including facilitating the livestream “The People vs CITI” hearing, and the Citibank blockades in April 2024. We organized a march, rally, and teach-in during the Summer of Heat launch week (see video below). Our Rebels participated in many actions throughout the Summer of Heat, in New York and across Turtle Island.

- Scientists Help Deliver a Summer of HeatBanks are a high-leverage target for climate action. Scientist Rebellion has been engaged with the Summer of Heat campaign, targeting one of the largest funders of new fossil fuel projects: Citibank. Scientists have participated in nonviolent Summer of Heat climate actions in New York City and across the United States.
- SRTI Makes a Splash at ESAScientist Rebellion Turtle Island activists went to the Ecological Society of America conference this month. We made a lot of new friends, a fair amount of noise, and a little good trouble as we worked to grow the movement confronting the intersecting climate and extinction crises.
